The Workforce Development Board of Central Ohio in collaboration with OhioMeansJobs – Columbus-Franklin County has championed a series of industry tours called CareerQuest. The tours focus on in-demand manufacturing, logistics, information technology, and healthcare occupations taking prospective job seekers directly to the employer’s place of business.
The tour series kicked off in October with a visit to Pilkington North America, Inc. followed by tours of Mt. Carmel Health, T. Marzetti, the Local Carpenters Union, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Regional Council of Carpenters, and the Dublin Water Plant. A total of 43 job seekers have participated in the tours so far.
To prepare for a tour employers share job descriptions and requirements with the OhioMeansJobs Business Services Team in advance. Then staff pre-screen interested job seekers to ensure suitability and match open jobs with skills and experience. On the day of the visit, a bus transports job seekers and staff as a group to the employer’s place of business for tours, conversations, and hopefully for both sides, fulfilling applications and one-on-one interviews.
Career professionals from OhioMeansJobs – Columbus-Franklin County, Goodwill Columbus, and Columbus Urban League participate to facilitate both employer representatives and job seekers, building relationships for future collaboration as a bonus.
The next CareerQuest tour at Superior Die Tool is scheduled for March 13, 2024. If you are a job seeker, over the age of 18, interested in attending this tour, please email recruiter@omjcfc.org
If you are a Franklin County employer in the industry of manufacturing, logistics, information technology, or healthcare and would like to provide a tour, please contact Windy Murphy wmurphy@wdbco.org
