  • Training and curriculum that aligns with the skill needs of employers in our region.
  • Access to educational and career counseling and other supportive services.
  • Hands-on, meaningful learning activities that are connected to education and training activities, such as exploring career options, and understanding how the skills acquired through the coursework can be applied toward a future career.
  • Opportunities to attain at least one industry-recognized credential; and
  • A partnership with one or more registered apprenticeship programs that assist in placing individuals who complete the pre-apprenticeship program into a registered apprenticeship program.

Apprentices

A registered apprenticeship program is an employer-driven workforce development strategy that delivers high-quality, formalized training, paid on-the-job experience, mentorship, and classroom instruction.

  • Earn while you learn- Apprentices are paid for the work they do while on the job, allowing them to earn a wage while developing their skills.  As an apprentice demonstrates competency, they progress in the program and continue to earn higher wages.
  • On-the-job training- Apprentices work under the guidance of experienced mentors or journeypersons to gain practical, hands-on experience in a specific occupation.
  • Related instruction-Apprentices receive formal education to learn the theoretical aspects of their chosen field.
  • Certification- Upon completion of the program, apprentices receive a portable nationally recognized credential.
  • Industry Standards- Registered apprenticeships adhere to standards regulated by government agencies or industry organizations.
